OUR PROCESS

How We Work For Inventors
You can think of us like a talent agency, like those who represent high-profile actors or sports stars. But we go a step further. Not only do we make the connections and help broker the deals, we help develop our clients along the way through our digital content, courses, and direct coaching and mentoring.
There are two paths to submitting
innovations for consideration.
Open Call for innovations
We accept submissions any time to be considered by our licensing team for our Win-Win Licensing Program. We generally license products in the areas of Advanced Materials, Toys, and Consumer Products.
Monthly Innovation Challenge:
Each month we partner with an innovative company that is looking for great ideas to expand their product line. These challenges target specific categories. Past challenges include toys, holiday lighting & decor,Every Day Carry tools, and yard games.
“As a first time inventor, I couldn’t have asked for a better, more experienced company to partner with through the licensing process. Trident Designs used their vast licensing experience to prove themselves knowledgeable about the entire process from beginning to end.”
How We Evaluate Submissions
Not all submissions are created equal. It’s not enough just to have a great idea. In order to select the great ideas we present, we look at the level of readiness and potential of the invention idea using the “4 Ps.”

Product
Product questions we consider:
- Is the idea a winner?
- Is it a major improvement in an existing idea?
- Is it easy to understand?
- How big is the potential market?
- Does the effort it will take to execute line up with the potential reward
- Does it align with our own expertise and networks?

Patent
- Is there a patent or patents pending or issued?
- Are they utility or design?
- Who drafted them?
- How well are they drafted?
- Are they narrow or broad?
- How long have they been pending, or if issued, how much time is left?

Prototype
- Is there a prototype? If not, are there at least cool looking renderings?
- Are there CAD files? If there is a prototype, is it com pelling?
- How well does it work?
- Does it prove beyond a shadow of a doubt the value of the innovation?

Presentation
- Is there a compelling presentation of the invention that clearly explains it in straight-forward language?
- Are there attractive and easy to understand renderings?
- Is there an explainer video?
- How effective is the video?
What Happens When Your Idea is Selected
4. If a license is secured, we will shepherd your invention through to production and manage the ongoing business relationship with the partner.
You Can Do It!
Inventing is challenging! The game of turning ideas into viable products is not for the faint of heart.
After 25 years of designing, developing, and licensing products, we can assure you that it is possible to succeed if you have the right ideas, realistic expectations, perseverance, and support.
Remember that manufacturing and distribution partners are looking for products, not projects. You can increase your chances of getting your great idea licensed by presenting the most developed products possible.
